Dear EFP church folk,

I hope you’ve found the love, hope and faith you’ve needed this past week, whatever it has brought.

This week’s announcement of ‘the rule of six’ will bring further adjustment to our lives from Monday.
  • Church-wise, the headline is that it won't affect Sunday worship.
  • Guidance regarding its impact on other church activities (house-groups, PCCs, etc) isn’t expected until this coming week.
  • The delayed APCMs for Payhembury (22nd Sep) and Feniton (29th Sep) will still go ahead. The logistics will be confirmed.

Yesterday I was in Feniton School for the first time properly since March.
  • It was great to spend time with the new Year 6s, even if distanced. The children were bright and positive, and spilling over with their recent experiences of lockdown, bubbles, and the rest.
  • The challenges facing all schools are immense, just some of the maybe less obvious ones being getting COVID testing done for sick children, serving lunch for ‘bubbles’, and parents forming socially-distanced school-gate queues. Teachers, parents and children will value our encouragement and prayer.

Today -
1. the 2nd Sunday of the month, so the service is at Payhembury - Communion 10.30am
  • it’s the Patronal festival - I’m labelling it a ‘Parental Patronal’, since we will reflect on parenthood through the experience of St Mary.
  • Communion bread will be distributed. (However, if you prefer to bring your own bread, please do so.)
  • service sheet attached.

2. Sunday Reflection and Prayer video - tomorrow with added Hymn!
  • reflection is on the same ‘parental patronal’ theme.
  • Children's Church sheet is HERE
  • Prayer Diary is HERE
  • Here is the link for the service video: https://youtu.be/g7LRC9wx-zk
A reminder of the rest of September's services:

20th Escot  10.30am Special service - Climate and Patteson anniversary
27th Feniton  9am Storytime+
Payhembury  10.30am   All-age

Inspiration for the day -
In Christ we have everything...
If you want to heal your wound, he is the doctor.
If you are burning with fever, he is the fountain.
If you are in need of help, he is strength.
If you are in dread of death, he is life.
If you are fleeing the darkness, he is light.
If you are hungry, he is food:
‘O taste and see that the Lord is good!
Happy are those who take refuge in him’.
(Ambrose of Milan (c340-397 AD))

Dear EFP church folk,

Stepping into September, and the schools are all back this coming week.
What a huge step it is for all our young people, and for teachers and parents, as they return to full schooling whilst also adjusting to all that is different.
God’s words to Joshua as the people stepped into the new territory of the Promised Land seem apt:
"Be strong and courageous;
do not be frightened or dismayed,
for the Lord your God is with you
 wherever you go.” (Joshua 1v9)
I will be continuing my involvement in Collective Worship in our two primary schools, but in different ways:
- in Feniton school, I will be joining one class each Friday afternoon.
- in Payhembury school, I will be leading a whole-school session remotely, roughly fortnightly.

Service patterns
Our principal service pattern in September and in subsequent months will be as follows:
1st Sunday Feniton 10.30am
2nd Payhembury 10.30am
3rd Escot 10.30am
4th Services oriented towards young people and families -
Feniton 9am Storytime+
Payhembury 10.30am   All-age

- There will be adjustments for seasonal festivals.
- ’Storytime+’ will develop from Storytime roots to incorporate a wider age-range. All ages are welcome!
- Video reflections continue each Sunday.
- We won’t be continuing midweek services at present.

So September services will be:
6th Feniton  10.30am Communion
13th Payhembury  10.30am Patronal Festival (Communion)
20th Escot  10.30am Special service - Climate and Patteson anniversary
27th Feniton  9am Storytime+
Payhembury  10.30am   All-age

1. Tomorrow’s (6 September 2020) Communion at Feniton 10.30am -
  • Communion bread will be distributed.
  • However, if you prefer to bring your own bread, please do so.
  • As usual, those from other churches are very welcome, whilst needing to be mindful of social distancing.
  • Order of service attached.

A prayer from this week -
Forgive us Lord,
when we find ourselves
trying to domesticate you;
imagining that you are constrained
by rules we understand
or what we consider best.
Help us always to remember
that you are
beyond our comprehension,
and yet you love us
and desire our love for you.
Amen.

Take care, God bless, and have a good Bank Holiday,
David
